The arts programs at Eden High School aim to provide students with a wide variety of choices. Whether they have an affinity for a special or a desire to learn new skills in another area, there is a program for all students. From picking up an instrument, acting on stage, learning to design and animate their own characters, developing their singing skills, painting a masterpiece or editing their latest blockbuster film, students have many options available to them.
The focus in Applied Design will be the creation of an animated short. The course is designed for students in both the University/ College and Open destination courses. Students will have the opportunity to learn increasingly complex mechanical and digital design techniques, create cartoon characters, story boards and animated backgrounds. Students will also continue to learn how to apply the principles of art to commercial design through a variety of advertising, animation and illustration techniques in a digital medium.
The drama program at Eden High School runs from Grades 9 to 12. Students learn to get in touch with their inner actor as they learn all that goes into writing, planning and producing a drama production. From monologues, small groups productions to a larger school production, students gain the necessary background knowledge to stage all of these forms of drama. Through taking on the roles of the various stage crew and being on stage themselves, students develop their confidence by stepping in front of the crowd and putting on the show!
The instrumental music program at Eden High School runs from Grades 10 to 12. After completing the Grade 9 music program, students may choose to continue in the instrumental music stream. The goal of the program is to introduce students to traditional and non-traditional band instruments as they gain the necessary knowledge and skills to play an instrument. Students continue to develop their ability to read music as well as apply the theory knowledge they gain to further enhance their performance ability through challenging repertoire and consistent practice.
The Media Arts program at Eden High School is a senior level course aimed to introduce students to producing media works such as video productions, graphic designs and photography. By using state-of-the-art software solutions and up to date DSLRs, students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to write, plan, shoot and edit their own media productions. Students who take this course will also gain highly sought after 21st century skills. They will have a greater understanding of what it means to promote, market or create media products that will help industries in their growth in the marketplace.
The visual arts program at Eden High School is offered from Grade 9 through 12. The courses aim to provide an overview of visual arts as a foundation in addition to refining the students' skills and knowledge in visual arts. Through analyzing various art forms and studying the theories of art, students will gain the necessary skills to think creatively and critically, analyze the great art pieces of the past as well as most importantly, produce their own art. Whether it's painting, sketching, drawing or sculpting, students will develop the skills necessary to fulfill their own masterpieces!
The vocal music program at Eden High School runs from Grade 10 to 12. After completing our Grade 9 Music program, students may choose to continue in vocal music to develop their vocal abilities, learn to sing in harmony and to develop their performance skills. Through several performing opportunities in the semester, students develop the necessary confidence to step in front of their peers, sing and impress themselves! These skills will help students in all walks of life as they take that newfound confidence with them wherever they go. Students will also develop their songwriters' piano and guitar skills to help them write their own music. They will also develop their knowledge of composition using a variety of digital tools at their disposal.
